Raindrops Keep Falling...

It happens every time.

Whenever we put money down for something expensive, everything that can go wrong, does.  Just last week, we put the deposit down on our upcoming October family trip to Disney World.  So what happens next?  It's almost funny.

First the lawnmower breaks down (leaving our front yard half-mowed).

Next, Sindri, our Belgian Shepherd, starts walking with a pronounced limp.  Considering he's also behind on his rabies shots, I expect a major bill from whatever ails him.

That's followed by our six-month-old 50-inch TV developing a strange flickering in the upper right of the screen. Luckily, it's under warranty, but I'm sure we'll somehow have extra fees.

To try to steal the attention back from the dog, our two-year-old then decides to lose her glasses.  We get a free pair each year under our insurance.  Unfortunately, the free pair's the one we lost.

Gee, this seems like a great time to chip a tooth.  Done!  Now I just need to call our expensive dentist.

Oh yeah, and we can't forget about the fact that I left my freaking shoes on the car after my volleyball game last night.  They could be anywhere between Buckhead and my house.  Maybe some lucky homeless man's running in my Adidas as we speak.

The good thing is that all of this financial drama is perfectly balanced out by a matching amount of non-financial drama.  Work is stressful, the kids are "exploring their independence" and driving Alecia nuts, my younger brothers have decided to hate each other and to get the rest of the family involved in an email war, the heat index is at a record high and the smog is giving me nosebleeds, my volleyball team sucks, I'm the heaviest I've been in years (stress eating rocks), and I am a complete failure in my efforts to make a homemade lava lamp.  That last item will be discussed in another post, but it should be noted that Target is featuring lava lamps at "the lowest price of the year" this week.  Coincidence, or the universe trying to rub my failure in my face?

In short, this is not my best week.

The upside to all of this is that I get a daddy's weekend this weekend, as Alecia's ditching us to go to a wedding shower in Florida with her mom and sister.  I've been feeling bad about not spending enough time with Maddie and Josie lately due to work, so this will be my chance to make it up to them.

Sure, I'll be even more tired heading into Monday, but next week can't be as rough as this one, right?
