Newsflash: Colds Suck

The worst thing about having a bad cold--if that's even what I have, and not just severe seasonal allergies--is that it doesn't get you out of doing anything. Nobody stays home from work with just a cold. No meetings are canceled, no work is avoided. Everything happens as usual, but with more pain and suffering.

I feel like I've taken every medicine in our medicine cabinet at home and in the office medicine chest. I've inhaled liquids, swallowed pills, and am this close to injecting vitamin C straight into my sinuses. I'm fairly sure I shouldn't be driving an automobile or operating heavy machinery. But nothing seems to be making a dent.

It's times like these that I give thanks and praise to whoever thought to put lotion in a kleenex. That guy saved my nose, and I wish him nothing but wealth and prosperity. Although I do have to admit it's even harder to open an aspirin bottle when your fingers have nose lube all over them.

The one good thing about a bad cold, at least for me, is that it never lasts long. I expect to be much better tomorrow, which is important, since I have a bunch of family coming in on Thursday and a big week before then. Of course, I just have to hope this doesn't spread to the kids. They're actually a little tougher than I am when it comes to being sick...but they also don't use tissues, as a general rule. So they're tougher, but a hundred times slimier.
